Fall Commencement Ceremony
Sunday, December 18 – In The Fortnightly of 12.9.2011 Interim Dean Barlowe wrote:
“In Alice Skeens’ honor, her granddaughter, Kirsten, will carry the mace at UT’s fall commencement on Sunday, December 18. Our college will be highlighted during commencement, and our faculty, who will be seated together directly in front of the platform, will be recognized. Please come to commencement to honor Alice and to represent LLSS and our graduating students. Thank you in advance for coming.
The President of the University and the Board of Trustees have extended a special invitation to LLSS faculty attending Commencement on December 18th. There will be a luncheon after the commencement ceremony in the Grogan Room of the Savage Arena. Reservations are necessary for this special event. Please respond to Debbie Corkins (419.530.4616 or deborah.corkins@utoledo.edu) no later than noon on December 14 if you will be able to attend.”
The LLSS Council will meet on Tuesday, December 13 at 3:30 in Student Union room 2591. Click on “Agendas/Meeting Materials” from the menu for links to the full agenda, draft minutes from the November 15 meeting, and a curriculum proposal that will be considered at the meeting. Along with the usual reports we will have a visit from Ben Pryor, Dean of the College of Innovative Learning, presentations on Writing Across the Curriculum and on Study Abroad Opportunities for faculty, and some words of tribute commemorating the recent passing of Dr. Robert Freeman Smith, Professor Emeritus in the History Department.
There are a couple of ways to send comments to the HLC prior to their site visit at the end of February if you wish to.
Professor Michael Dowd announced at Faculty Senate and at LLSS Council that an e-mail address (utcommentstohlc@gmail.com) has been created to which faculty, staff, or students could send comments which he would then forward to the Higher Learning Commission. If the commenter wishes to remain anonymous to the HLC, Dr. Dowd will forward the comment under his name with no identifying information about the individual who sent him the e-mail. So, if an individual doesn’t want his or her identity known to the HLC, this service is available. That e-mail address again – utcommentstohlc@gmail.com
The HLC has a page for “third-party” comments that has a form that can be filled out and submitted online. It also has the snail-mail address. The HLC comments page is http://www.ncahlc.org/Information-for-the-Public/third-party-comment.html
